Monk’s Modules: Transforming Foundry Gameplay
Monk’s suite of modules has become an absolute highlight in my Foundry VTT setup. They aren’t just useful—they’re brilliant, providing tools that enhance immersion, streamline mechanics, and make every game feel more polished. Let me share why I can’t imagine running a game without them.
Monk’s Bloodsplats
- What it does: When a monster dies, this module adds a dramatic blood splat where the token used to be.
- Why it’s awesome:
- The splats are more than just visual flair—they become loot markers for players to interact with, adding an extra layer of engagement.
- I’ve set it up to hide the defeated token under the splat, which my players absolutely love.
- Minor issue: Occasionally, tokens get stuck under the splats, but I’m confident IronMonk will address this soon.
This module is such a simple addition, but it packs a huge impact. My players actually cheer for the splats—how can you not love that? More information
Monk’s Combat Details
This is hands-down one of the most indispensable modules in my arsenal. It offers a wealth of tools to make combat smoother and more engaging.
- Features I use (and love):
- No Combat Without Initiative: Keeps combat organised. It’s especially helpful since my players use the Token HUD to manage initiative.
- Prevent Token Combat Removal: Avoids accidental removals that can mess with combat flow.
- Order Initiative: Makes it easier for players to spot their tokens, especially in encounters with lots of monsters.
- Clear Targets After Turn: Absolutely essential for clearing targeting clutter.
- Combat Round Messages: Keeps everyone informed of which round we’re in—a must for tracking effects.
- Show Token Start: A great tool for visualising movement and positioning.
- Automation Highlights:
- Pop-out combat tracker when combat starts.
- Automatically close the tracker when combat ends—simple but effective for keeping things tidy.
With so many options, this module can do almost anything you want. But the key to success is enabling only what makes your game better. For me, it’s all about making combat fun and seamless. More information
Monk’s Combat Marker
Another deceptively simple tool that’s become an integral part of my setup.
- Why I use it: It highlights tokens clearly during combat, helping players and GMs stay focused.
- Bonus: It’s so good that Foundry plans to integrate it into the core system!
Sometimes, the best tools are the ones you don’t even think about because they just work. This is one of those tools. More information
Monk’s Little Details
This is the ultimate polish module, filled with small tweaks that enhance gameplay and user experience.
- Almost everything is enabled in my setup because so many of the features are fantastic. However, I do turn off a few options:
- Remove Filepicker Favourites: I rely on both favourites and quicklinks, so I keep this feature off.
- Move Pause Icon Up: Disabled because it’s unnecessary for my group.
- Use Keys to Swap Tools: Turned off to avoid accidental key presses that could confuse players.
Every little detail adds up, making the game feel smoother, more immersive, and just plain better. This module is a must-have for anyone looking to elevate their Foundry experience. More information
